With the type of voice that’s capable of defining a generation, Eriq J’mar is an artist you can’t ignore. His cutting-edge musical style and dynamic vocal ability are refreshing and will have you playing his music over and over again for years to come. Simply put, Eriq J’mar is the real deal. A singer/songwriter out of Baltimore, Maryland, he’s been entertaining audiences around the globe for years. And, with his natural good looks and winning personality, at first site, it’s clear that this talent is headed for superstardom.
Eriq began singing at the age of six on the Wayland Baptist Church Choir; where his grandmother was the mother of the church. As his gift for singing became more clear, he began studying voice at The Baltimore School for the Arts under the late great Nathan Carter. Towards the end of High School Eriq, along with Jerry Lattisaw (brother of 80’s teen star Stacy Lattisaw), formed the R&B group Me 2 U. The group went on to sign a major deal with RCA Records and scored two Billboard charting singles, ‘Want You Back,’ and ‘All Night.’ A few years later, Eriq formed another group, Diversiti, which signed with Global/EMI Records and began touring the United States.
Throughout the years, Eriq has had the opportunity to work with some of the Entertainment Industry’s greatest talents. From Me 2 U’s video directed by ‘The Cosby Show’s’ Malcolm Jamal Warner (with a cameo by Wendy Williams), touring the United States and Europe with SWV and Intro, to appearing on legendary TV shows like Soul Train, The Apollo, Teen Summit on B.E.T. and Jerry Lewis Telethon, his lifelong dream were coming true.
One of the biggest highlights in his career was opening for Stephanie Mills and The Isley Brothers at the 1st Marina Arena in his hometown. And, when Diversiti was invited to sing The National Anthem for The Washing Wizards and The Baltimore Orioles, Eriq was ecstatic as the Anthem is one of his favorite songs to sing.
As Eriq’s star continued to rise, he ventured out as a solo artist. His first gig was working with world-renowned saxophonist Kim Waters, singing background vocals on his hit CD ‘Someone to Love You.’ He went on to open for the likes of Fantasia, Regina Belle, and Eric Benet, gaining respect and adoration from fans and his music industry peers as a vocal powerhouse. With new music on the horizon and just like some of the greats who have inspired him like Stevie Wonder, Whitney Houston, Bruno Mars, Miguel, and John Legend, he’s bringing you those soulful, classic hits that are sure to stand the test of time.
